I sent the following email out earlier this morning:
Just wanted to give glory to God.
Yesterday afternoon, we accepted an offer on our house in Algonquin. Last night, we put an offer on a house in Peoria and it was accepted. Wow.
About 10 days ago, Liz and I both felt prompted that when it came to looking for a house, we had been moving in the wrong direction. We were being drawn to a more urban setting, closer to the downtown area of Peoria (yes...Peoria has a city center), with more diversity in the schools and in a place where the issues of the city (crime, poverty, brokenness in the school system, rebuilding neighborhoods, vision for the city) could become things we care about. As soon as we agreed to move in that direction, things started to happen.
Early last Sunday( Feb 11) after I had left for Peoria (even earlier), Liz got a call that a couple wanted to come see the house. They came later that day and loved it but had a house to sell. Then on Tuesday, in the middle of the snow and nasty weather, we got a call that they had agreed to a contract on their house and were really interested in ours. On Wednesday, we found a house on our realtor's site, that Liz and I both loved. It is old, in a historic district, three short blocks from Bradley University, a short distance from the downtown area, diverse schools, and surrounded by both changing and struggling neighborhoods. Plus it is a manageable distance from the church.
We looked at the house on Saturday, and as they say, the rest is history. There are many details that I have left out that we kept feeling like God was at work and we were surfing along.
Thanks for your prayers. Don't stop!
Everyone in this deal wants to move fast, so we could be in our house in a window of 3 weeks or less.
All I can say, is that the journey is not boring!!
We appreciate your encouragement in this journey.
We know the next three weeks are going to be a whirlwind but we are excited that God seems to be leading us! More updates ahead.
Congrats - one chapter closes, another begins.
